Why We Are Different

Our clinic is located in the Forest, VA area just off of Forest Road. Our space has been designed to be a peaceful, calming, private space where our patients can come to receive extraordinary care! We provide services including: pelvic floor physical therapy, massage therapy, lactation consultations, therapeutic ultrasound for blocked ducts, and dry needling. Our gym space is utilized for our patients in physical therapy as well as hosting classes for the women’s health community.

How much training should a pelvic floor physical therapist have?

Our pelvic floor physical therapists have completed extensive certifications/training for assessment and treatment of the deep core/pelvic floor and receive ongoing mentorship. In order to provide pelvic floor physical therapy at The Fem PT, we require that therapists at MINIMUM complete Level 1 & Level 2 courses with either APTA Section on Pelvic Health or Herman & Wallace. We also provide a strong orthopedic approach which allows us to see fast, long lasting results with our patients.

The required courses our therapists complete are in person and what really makes a pelvic floor PT — a pelvic floor PT! Unfortunately, there is not a lot of accountability among providers with this specialty and many providers will claim to provide pelvic floor PT when they have not taken necessary coursework. We believe this is a disservice to patients who oftentimes are coming in to receive care/treatment for concerns that are private, difficult to share, and oftentimes perceived as embarrassing.

Why are we out of Network?

We believe it is of utmost importance to treat our patients with the best care! See below for the benefits of seeing cash based pelvic floor Physical Therapists at The Fem PT.

The Fem PT

Length of Evaluations: ~2 hours

Length of treatment sessions? 1 hour

Average frequency of sessions? every 1-2 weeks for 6-8 weeks

Average total sessions? 3-4 sessions total

What can we treat? Because we don’t accept insurance we can treat patients from head to toe. Oftentimes, pelvic floor dysfunction doesn’t just originate from the pelvis but can occur from impairments in the spine/rib cage/extremities. Treatment success and long term resolution of symptoms drastically increase when therapists can take a holistic total body approach.

Provider patients see? Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) with extensive training in pelvic floor rehab (see above). Increased intention and continuous assessment.

Communication between appointments? Available for free via text, phone, or email

Treatment Space? Private treatment rooms & access to private open gym space to progress patients to higher level exercise if indicated (equipped Crossfit level equipment)

Cost? There are NO hidden fees. Patients can either pay up front, on a payment plan, or in package amounts to save 10% off the total cost. We provide itemized bills patients can submit to their insurance or share group. Reimbursement for insurance differs insurance to insurance and the specific plan the patient has. However, MOST patients with share groups are FULLY reimbursed.

We accept HSA cards!

In-Network Pelvic Floor Clinic

Length of Evaluations: ~45 minutes (treatment starts when name is called)

Length of treatment sessions? ~30-45 minutes

Average frequency of sessions? 1-2 visits/week for 8-12 weeks

Average total sessions? ranging from 8-24 sessions

What can they treat? Because insurance is accepted, therapists are limited to where they can assess/treat in the body. Insurance desires to see that the main impairment is being addressed and fails to make the connection of the relationship of the spine/rib cage/extremities to the deep core/pelvic floor. This causes therapists to limit their assessments/treatments because it puts them at risk for not being paid by insurance. This also prevents the root cause from being addressed.

Provider patients see? Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) who may or may not have training with pelvic floor rehab & physical therapy assistant (PTA). Patients may switch back/forth from different providers with lesser degrees which limits the time with the actual DPT.

Communication between appointments? Typically none is allowed/no time to provide this

Treatment Space? May or may not have access to a private treatment room; less ability to progress patient towards higher level exercise due to insurance limitations

Cost? This differs insurance to insurance and depending on the specific plan that the patient has. This also depends on whether the patient has met their deductible or not. Surprise bills are often common even if “their insurance is accepted” due to these details. Regardless, patients may need to pay about a $30 copay each time they go to physical therapy.

Total Cost with insurance & Co-pay for 8-24 sessions:

$240 - $720

Patient Satisfaction: May vary depending on if the patient feels the session was rushed or their thoughts on being switched among different providers.
